12 Best Country Wedding Songs for Your First Dance

By Kurt Wolff

Planning a wedding is no small project, as pretty much every married couple can (and will) tell you. But between decisions about locations, menus, tableware and seating arrangements—not to mention dress shopping and guest-list editing—a task that can easily fall through the cracks is your soundtrack.

Which is, of course, vital, because key moments in the ceremony demand specific songs. You don’t want to dance with your parents to Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake,” do you? Or walk down the aisle to Tammy Wynette’s “Kids Say the Darnedest Things” or George Strait‘s “Give It Away”? (OK, maybe some of you do, but that’s your business to work out.)

One of the most important songs is the one a couple chooses for their first dance. There are expectations here: the song needs to mean something in terms of not only the road ahead (a hopefully long and loving relationship) but, ideally, will also speak on a personal level between the two partners.
