You may have noticed recently on social media that a lot of artists are changing their profile pictures to a solid teal color. Why? Because #TIDALforALL.
TIDAL is a music-streaming service that’ll charge listeners $19.99/month for high-definition audio and music videos. This service is similar to Spotify, except will not offer a free service.
Artists like Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Jay-Z, Madonna, Jason Aldean and many more have changed their profile pictures all over social media and are waiting for “music history” to be made later tonight when an announcement is made from the company.
What does this mean for Spotify and other music streaming companies?
Spotify has approximately 60 million people using their service, most of which using it for free, while about 15 million people actually pay for the service. TIDAL does not offer a free service and even though it has the backing of many, many artists, it has to figure out a way to compete with the free services. Spotify pays artists about $0.006-.0084 per stream of their song, which is not a lot. One thing we could see in the future is artists taking their music off of Spotify a, like Taylor Swift did last year.
We aren’t sure what the big announcement is tonight, but here is the teaser for it…
Would you pay $19.99 a month for this service or stick to the free music streaming services?
