If you happen to be staring into a familiar face while you wait in line at Barnes and Noble, it’s probably Tim McGraw’s. He’s on the cover of the January issue of Billboard Magazine and he’s got a very warm, yet ominous look in his eyes. He knows you’ve missed him and he knows you want more. So he’s bringing you what you want by way of a new album on a new label. His career may have hit a few legal bumps in the road, but he’s not letting that stop him. He’s putting it behind him and moving forward.
Tim McGraw is back in the driver’s seat and this time it’s on his own terms.
According to his Billboard magazine interview, Tim hasn’t been able to bring his career and music up to full speed until now and he’s extremely optimistic about it.
“It’s like I put it in a different gear now,” he says. “I really feel like I’m only about 35% into my career. There’s so much more ahead of me, musically and everything else. It feels like the clouds have parted and now I can find my lane and press the gas.”
Seems as though fans are in for a pretty incredible ride based upon the tempo and vision Tim seems to have these days. He’s pushing himself creatively, plus he’s got a new label to call home. Tim has teamed up with Big Machine Records and Scott Borchetta who are responsible for other Country powerhouse’s like Taylor Swift, Reba and Rascal Flatts.
So, why did Tim chose Big Machine Records? He tells Billboard, “I wanted to go someplace where there’s a freshness and energy, and Scott’s got that energy. Anything’s possible, there’s no rules, and I feel like I made my career that way. Had I known the rules, I wouldn’t make records the way I make records. I’ve got all the freedom I want. It’s a partnership.”
Scott Borchetta is a happy man too. “The fans are going to absolutely freak out. He’s fully engaged, and there’s a ton of great music and live energy left in Tim McGraw, so it’s a fantastic time to be working with him. There’s times I sit back and think, ‘Wow, Tim McGraw’s on Big Machine. How cool is that?'”
Very cool actually! One of the benefits of being labelmates with Taylor Swift is being able to easily grab her for a quick song on your album. Taylor will be featured on Tim’s song “Highway Don’t Care,” which brings the whole Taylor and Tim connection full circle.
McGraw will release his first record on Big Machine on Feb. 5 called Two Lanes of Freedom.
