Carrie Underwood has some big shoes to fill in the role that made Julie Andrews pretty dang famous in the 1965 film “The Sound of Music.” Remember Julie singing and dancing atop the grassy hill? She made being a nanny look super cool. Well, word is Carrie Underwood will be wearing an apron next year! She has been selected to play Maria von Trapp in NBC’s broadcast of the original stage version. There hasn’t been a specific date set yet, but the three-hour live event will be broadcast sometime during the holidays in 2013.
“Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”
This is huge! Carrie has done a bit of acting (“How I Met Your Mother”) and some award show hosting, but nothing quite like this. So awesome! Go Carrie go!
