Phoenix Children’s Hospital
Kids love the holiday season! The simplistic thoughts of old St. Nick bringing them presents running through their minds can be quite unfortunate when having to spend the holiday season in a hospital. That’s why it is up to volunteers like you and I to get out there and make a difference in these kids’ lives! How to volunteer? Well, if you’re looking for a rewarding experience, then you’ve come to the right place! Volunteers must be available at least 2-4 hours a week. Phoenix Children’s Hospital provides volunteers with specialized training at no cost to them! Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in the hospital and volunteers between the ages of 16 and 18 will need parental permission. Here is a brief outline of the process:
TAKE THE FIRST STEPS:
•Attend a Volunteer Information Session
•Submit a complete application
•Interview if your available time matches their current hospital needs
•Complete background check (remember that you’re going to be volunteering with kids)
•Complete health screening including blood draw.( 3 hour online training PC required)
Since the process is costly, the hospital asks that each volunteer commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service annually. If not interested in the long term commitment, you can always become a community volunteer. You do not need to attend a Volunteer Information Session prior to participating as a community volunteer. For more information, please call volunteer services at (602) 933-0269. This may seem like a long process, but imagine how much it would mean to that one child. Hospitals tend to get lonely for children especially you being there makes all the difference!
