Who is Miss Willie Brown?
The new up and coming female duo is making quite the splash in the country scene these days! But who are these cowgirls? And what’s with the unusual name?
Kasey Buckley and Amanda Watkins met in Venice, CA and immediately hit it off. They met at a local BBQ joint and that very night wrote four songs, one landing on their EP, being inseparable ever since.
The two brunette beauties bring complementary strengths to the table. Amanda’s focus is on melody and the main message of a song, the chorus. Kasey’s gifted in writing the words and stories. They claim that even their weaknesses have been strengthened by joining forces.
With a singular dream of making it big, the two set themselves apart with powerful vocals, uniquely splitting the lead singer role, and outstanding song selection- self- created. It also helps they possess genuine, spunky, down-to-earth personalities, charming anyone they come in contact with. A&M/Octone Record signed Miss Willie Brown and producer Keith Stegall immediately began working with the group to make their first full-length album. With appearances on late night show Jimmy Kimmel and touring with superstar Dierks Bently, their dream is becoming a reality.
So it is obvious the duo has the talent to make it big but how on earth did they land that name? The song “Big Willie Brown” is actually about Kasey’s father. Back in the day women took a man’s full name when wed and the idea of naming themselves in this fashion just stuck. They liked the cool, bluesy sound of it that embodied the group’s soulful sound. Coincidently MWB holds the initials of both girls’ last names. Way cool!
The country world can’t wait to see what Miss Willie Brown will bring to the table in the future. And KMLE can’t wait to see what they bring to the 8 Man Jam stage!
