• In 1971…Janis Joplin‘s version of Kris Kristofferson‘s song “Me and Bobby McGee” was released – four months after her death from a heroin overdose. It was her only number-one hit.
• In 1970…Tammy Cochran born in Austinburg, Ohio. The traditionally minded singer nets a hit in 2001 with “Angels In Waiting,” written about two older brothers who died from cystic fibrosis. 
• In 1969…The Beatles performed their final concert on the roof of the Apple Building on London’s Saville Road. Police stopped the set after 42 minutes when an accountant at the nearby Royal Bank of Scotland complained about the noise.
• In 1956…At the RCA studios in New York, Elvis Presley made his own recording of Carl Perkins‘ “Blue Suede Shoes.”
